Produced in official collaboration with the 9⁄11 Memorial Museum, the series uses archival footage - some of which has never been seen before...。一处古色古香的和式房屋内，独自居住着年事已高的作家（大杉涟饰）。他曾经写下诸多优美凄婉的词句，而如今身心状态大不如前。一天天的衰老，令作家周身散发出几许凄凉况味。不知曾几何时，冷冷清清的房子突然变得热闹起来。老人的身边不知不觉多了一个欢呼雀跃的女孩子。女孩名叫赤子（二阶堂富美饰），她终日身着一袭红色的衣服，时而在榻榻米上跑来跑去，时而和老人一来一往对话，夜晚则与之相拥而眠，密迩无间。关于赤子的传言和猜测不胫而走，但鲜有人知晓她的真实身份。 原来赤子是老作家养了已有三年的金鱼，不知为何幻化成人形给老人带去慰藉。然而这对老少伴侣的宁静生活很快便被打破，老人的朋友芥川龙之介（高良健吾饰）、卖金鱼的男人（永濑正敏饰）以及老人曾爱慕的女人——已变成幽灵的百合子（真木阳子饰）相继出现，让他的生活陷入混乱之中……。
